What Is World Alzheimer’s Month?
Every September is World Alzheimer’s Month, a global campaign to raise awareness of dementia and promote better understanding of the condition. Around World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September, countries and communities around the world organize events, educational activities, and public awareness campaigns. 2026 marks the 33th World Alzheimer’s Day and the 15 Alzheimer’s Month Campaign by the Alzheimer’s Disease International.
The World Alzheimer Report is also scheduled to be released on 21 September.
Why Is It Important?
Dementia affects much more than memory. As the condition progresses, it can gradually make everyday life more challenging. Unfortunately, many people still have misconceptions about dementia, such as believing that people with dementia “can no longer do anything” or that it is “a shameful disease.”
The Goals of World Alzheimer’s Month
World Alzheimer’s Month aims to:
  • Increase public understanding of dementia.
  • Encourage communities to support people living with dementia.
  • Reduce stigma and discrimination associated with dementia.

This Year’s Theme
The 2026 theme is: “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.”
Receiving an early diagnosis of dementia offers many benefits, including:
  • Starting treatment and rehabilitation as early as possible.
  • Planning for future care and daily living.
  • Making it easier for family members and others to provide appropriate support

Toolkit
Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) provides a free World Alzheimer’s Month Toolkit in English, French, and Spanish to help individuals and organizations take part in awareness activities.
The toolkit includes materials such as:
  • Posters
  • Images for social media
  • Infographics
  • Campaign and promotional resources

The materials included in the toolkit can be used not only by individuals but also by **schools, local communities, businesses, healthcare providers, and social care organizations** to support World Alzheimer’s Month activities in a wide range of settings.
We encourage everyone to take part in dementia-related events in your local community throughout September. By getting involved, you can help raise awareness, reduce stigma, and make World Alzheimer’s Month an even greater global success.
